CHENGYU PARK 06/17/2009

Chinese: 成语公园 Chéngyǔ Gōngyuán
Address: 北滨河路,安宁区  Běi Bīnhé Lù, Anníng Qū, opposite the Water Treatment Plant (see photo below)

Chéngyǔ (成语) are Chinese idioms, often made up of 4 characters, usually the moral of an old story. This park, on the north bank of the Yellow River, in Anning District, has a set of statues on display that depict these stories.

The bridges in Lanzhou have been undergoing inspections, and the Qīlǐhé Dàqiáo Bridge (七里河大桥) has been closed for repairs. Luckily there are two new bridges a few km upstream and downstream of the bridge, otherwise Anning District (on the north side of the Yellow River) would start to feel pretty cut off from the city (on the south side).

If you squint, you can just about make out 和谐安宁 in lights on the bridge:

BAOLONG SHAN 02/14/2009

Bàolóng Shān (抱龙山) is in Anning District, on the north side of the river, near the Qilihe Bridge. The route up starts from the north side of the road at Xìngfú Xiàng (幸福巷) bus stop (buses # 3, 103, 72). Walk up the small road, until you reach a 90 degree left turn. In the first picture below, don't go straight on (it becomes a dead-end). Follow the road to the left, and stay on the road until it ends, at the foot of the hills.

Or to give it it's full name: Lanzhou Yellow River Silver Beach Wetland Park.
兰州黄河银滩湿地公园 (Lánzhōu Huánghé Yíntān Shīdì Gōngyuán).

The park is on the north bank of the Yellow River, directly below the Yíntān Huánghé Dàqiío Bridge (银滩黄河大桥) in Ānníng Qū (安宁区) and stretches for about 1.5km.

Most of the birds had gone for Winter, but it felt more like Spring sometimes, walking alongside the flowers, bees and butterflies...
